How to Read an Options Table

Column 1 : Symbol

  • This column indicates the symbol of the underlying security.

Column 2 : Expiry Date

  • This column shows the expiration date of the options contract.

Column 3 : Strike Price

  • This is the price (per share) agreed for the purchase or sale of the underlying shares upon the exercise of the options contract.

Column 4 : Type

  • This column specifies whether the options contract is a call (C) or a put (P).

Column 5 : Bid

  • This indicates the highest price someone is willing to pay for the options contract.

Column 6 : Ask

  • This indicates the lowest price at which someone is willing to sell the options contract.

Column 7 : Volume

  • This column indicates the total number of options contracts that were traded during the day.

Column 8 : Open Interest

  • Open interest represents open positions, that is, the number of options contracts that are still in effect and have not yet been exercised.
